Actor Mel Gibson’s wife of 28 years filed divorce papers last Thursday.
People.com reports that 53-year-old Robyn Gibson is seeking spousal support and joint custody of their minor child nine-year-old Thomas. The couple have six older children ranging in age from 19 to 28.
In response, Gibson lawyers filed further court papers yesterday which revealed that the couple have been officially separated since August of 2006. The separation came a month after the actor was stopped for driving under the influence in Malibu. During that incident Gibson made some anti-Semitic comments which he was later forced to apologise for.
A source is quoted by People as saying "They'll do this amicably. There's a lot of mutual respect and they've worked hard on their marriage and worked hard on their separation."
