Fern Britton reportedly left her job as a co-host of 'This Morning' because of her pay gap with Phillip Schofield, tabloid reports claim.

Britton quit the ITV show yesterday and said that she was looking forward to doing other things and spending more time with her family.

However the Sun newspaper claims the presenter is said to be unhappy that she has not been given other high-profile television jobs, while Schofield has fronted a number of other shows.

An insider told the paper: "Phillip is a huge name at ITV these days and is absolutely raking it in while Fern hasn't done much else.

"It hasn't sat well with her the way she's been treated by ITV, so many of us are not surprised she is off."

According to The Sun, Schofield has a £2 million contract with ITV and fronts 'Dancing On Ice' as well as 'This Morning.'

He is also reportedly set to present a major new gameshow called 'The Cube' and pocket a £45,000 an episode for co-hosting 'Mr & Mrs' with Fern.

The reports claims that his pay packet is said to have infuriated Fern, who gets £15,000 a show for 'Mr & Mrs.'
