Jonathan Ross was nominated for a Bafta television award for his controversial chat show.
The 48-year-old, who was taken off the air for 12 weeks last year for his part in the Andrew Sachs radio phone-in scandal, was named in the entertainment performance category.
According to The Telegraph, Jonathan Ross has used his Twitter page to declare that Stephen Fry would be a more worthy Bafta winner.
Writing on his Twitter page, Ross said: "Morning all. Many thanks to all those who offered congratulations on Bafta nomination :) Just thrashed Jimmy Carry at tennis – perfect day!"
He then sent a message to Stephen Fry, also a Twitter fan, telling him: "Congrats on nomination Stephen. If I had to pick one from among us this year then it would be you! Best as ever, Jonathan."
The pair will vie for the best entertainment performance award at this year's television Baftas – Ross for his BBC One chat show 'Friday Night with Jonathan Ross', Fry for the BBC panel game ‘QI’.
The other nominees are Harry Hill, for 'Harry Hill's TV Burp', and Ant and Dec for 'I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!'.
