Reports that The Stone Roses will re-form this summer have been dismissed by the band's guitarist, John Squire.
According to the Press Association, Squire posted a message on the front page of his website saying: "I have no desire whatsoever to desecrate the memory of seminal Manchester pop group The Stone Roses."
Earlier this week it was reported that the band had agreed to re-form to play a 21-date tour this summer to mark the 20th anniversary of their legendary self-titled debut album.
The BBC quoted a spokesperson at Ian Brown's label Fiction/Polydor: "We know nothing about this. Ian is working on his new studio album which is due out later this year."
A spokesperson for Squire said he is concentrating on art exhibitions.
The statement said: "John Squire has just completed another exhibition in London and has plans to take it to Japan in July. Right now this is his priority."
Brown, who has forged a successful solo career, fell out with Squire in 1996. Drummer Reni left the band in 1995, while bassist Mani joined Primal Scream in 1996.
