The renowned Scottish singer-songwriter John Martyn has died. He was 60.

A statement on the singer's website reads: "With heavy heart and an unbearable sense of loss we must announce that John died this morning."

In a career spanning five decades and numerous genres, Martyn created such classic albums as 'Solid Air' and 'One World' and worked with the likes of Eric Clapton, John Paul Jones, Lee 'Scratch' Perry and Phil Collins.

The singer had been living in Kilkenny for a number of years.
