The Meteor Ireland Music Awards have been launched, with this year's presenter and nominees being revealed.

The event, which will take place on 17 March at the RDS in Dublin, will be hosted by television presenter Amanda Byram and will be screened on RTÉ Two on 18 March.

This year the public will be able to vote in eight categories – Best Irish Band, Best Irish Male, Best Irish Female, Best Irish Pop Act, Best Irish Album, Best Irish Live Performance, Best National DJ and Best Regional DJ.

The nominees for Best Irish Band are The Blizzards, Fight Like Apes, Republic of Loose, The Script and Snow Patrol.

The Best Irish Male shortlist includes Damien Dempsey, Duke Special, Mick Flannery, David Holmes and Jape.

The nominees for Best Irish Female are Tara Blaise, Lisa Hannigan, Gemma Hayes, Imelda May and Camille O'Sullivan.

The Best Irish Pop Act shortlist includes Boyzone, The Blizzards, The Coronas, Westlife and The Script.

Nominated for Best Irish Album are Fight Like Apes ('Mystery Golden Medallion'), Lisa Hannigan ('Sea Saw'), Messiah J & The Expert ('From The Word Go'), The Script ('The Script') and Snow Patrol ('A Hundred Million Suns').

Contesting the category of Best Irish Live Performance are The Blizzards, The Coronas, Fight Like Apes, Republic of Loose and The Swell Season.

Shortlisted for Best National DJ are RTÉ 2fm's Dave Fanning, Rick O'Shea and Dan Hegarty and Today fm's Alison Curtis, Tony Fenton and Ray Foley.

The shortlist for Best Regional DJ includes Keith Cunningham (Red fm), Dermot, Dave and Siobhan (Dublin's 98 fm), Leigh Doyle (Beat 102.103), Mark Noble (FM104), Jon Richards (Galway Bay fm) and The Zoo Crew (Spin South West).
