Colin Farrell is to star opposite Saoirse Ronan in 'The Way Back', the new film from Peter Weir.
Variety reports that the fact-based action-drama tells the story of a group of inmates who escape from a Siberian gulag in 1942.

The trade daily says Farrell will play a "tough, tattooed Russian" with Ed Harris playing an American, Jim Sturgess a Polish inmate and Ronan a Russian on the run whom they meet.
The film will begin production in Bulgaria in March.
