Winslet - The Reader was delayed for Kross

Kate Winslet's co-star in 'The Reader' David Kross was cast at 15 but filming was put on hold until he was old enough to shoot the films sex scenes.

According to The Guardian, Kross' mother wasn't happy about him making the film as she was worried it would interfere with his schoolwork.

Now 18, the young actor also had to learn English for the part in Stephen Daldry's film where he plays a 15-year-old boy as well as an older version of his character.

Kross barely knew who his leading lady was before filming began, although he had seen Winslet in 'Titantic'.

In 'The Reader', which is set in 1950's Germany, Winslet plays his lover, the older woman he falls for.

Kross has just been named a 2009 Shooting Star, the Berlin film festival's annual acting awards for up-and-comers.

'The Reader' will be released on 2 January.
