Speculation has mounted that the next 'Doctor Who' could be a woman after the show's writer, Russell T Davies, talked about actresses he would like to see in the role.
Speaking at the press screening of the 'Doctor Who' Christmas special, Davies was asked whether he would like to see a woman playing the lead role after David Tennant leaves the show next year.
Davies replied: "I think the more it's talked about, the more likely it is to happen."
When asked what stars he would like to see in the role, Davies said: "Lesley Sharp or Catherine Zeta Jones."
He said of the next Doctor: "It's a big deal to set up. Whoever becomes the Doctor has got to take on a whole life. It's a lot of soul-searching to do."
Davies will finish working on 'Doctor Who' next year on completion of four specials and said that he would not be involved in the choosing of the next star and did not known if auditions had already been held.
