Former Dollar singer David Van Day has said he was playing a game with the other competitors in 'I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!' which finished last Friday.

He eventually finished fourth on the programme which saw former Eastender Joe Swash crowned King of the Jungle. Van Day did not make many friends in the jungle, apart from Timmy Mallett, and was almost constantly at the centre of arguments while there.

Speaking to the Mirror Van Day said "I directed it all in my head. I plotted it like a Shakespearean character. I'm in the same mould as Simon Cowell, who everyone thinks is Mr Nasty."

"I am like a bite of Marmite. Sometimes I leave a bitter taste, sometimes people lap me up. If I'm trodden on, I can be as venomous as any poisonous snake in the jungle."

Van Day also spoke about his past drug problems, saying: "It was the '80s. You couldn't avoid them. It was the age of decadence. I splurged at least £100,000 on cocaine. I had an addictive personality and I took to everything like a duck to water."
