‘Shrek’ producer John H. Williams and his Vanguard Films have picked up rights to the satirical cult comic book series ‘Emo Boy.’

Emo is a fashion and music style as well as emotional description of someone who is overly sensitive or angst-ridden.

The comic, published by Slave Labor Graphics, followed the travails of the most self-dramatizing young man in the history of the world, whose emotions were so intense he even had ‘emo powers.’

The project has been described as being in the tone of ‘Napoleon Dynamite,’ ‘Harold and Maude’ and ‘Zoolander.’

Kyle Newman is set to direct the film, working from a script by Stephen Edmond, the comic's writer-artist.

Vanguard, which discovered the book at the annual Comic-Con shindig in San Diego, hopes to make a music a key component of the film.

Newman directed ‘Fanboys,’ the long-delayed comedy about ‘Star Wars’ fans starring Kristen Bell, Jay Baruchel and Dan Fogler.

The movie is due to open 6 February.
