Swash and McClean face jungle test

Swash - faces bushtucker trial

Joe Swash's stomach will be tested when he will eat witchetty grubs in today’s 'I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!'

The bushtucker trial, called 'I Scream Van', will pit the former 'EastEnders' actor against page 3 model and footballer's WAG Nicola McClean.

The eighth series of the show began last night with the public voting for the two celebrities to face the first stomach-churning trial.

In the opening show Swash, who played Micky Miller in the soap, asked his fellow contestant, the tennis star Martina Navratilova, about her home country the Czech Republic. "Is that near Prague?" he said, to which she explained that Prague was the capital.

He also insisted that he had three stops en route to Australia from London - "Kuala Lumpur and Sydney" - as the other celebrities told him that actually constituted just two.

Bookmakers have tipped Swash as the 4/1 favourite to win the show, but 52-year-old Navratilova, though joint third in the odds at 6/1, has so far proved more attractive to punters.

Ladbrokes spokesman Robin Hutchison said: "We've taken more bets on Martina than anyone else and have already had to cut her price. Given the quirky winners in the past she may just have what it takes to upset the odds."

The celebrities were split into two teams yesterday. Swash's victorious "home" camp won both tests, guaranteeing the members better food. Former Blue star Simon Webbe's "away" team had to make do with rice and beans and were kicked out of their beds and forced to sleep in bags on the ground.

Tension already appears to be mounting among the away team, with politician Kilroy-Silk and Zucker bickering throughout the first show.
