Just days before Americans go to the polls to elect a new president, Republican candidate John McCain made an appearance on 'Saturday Night Live' this weekend.

People reports that McCain joked in the opening sketch of the show that the only airtime he could afford to purchase was from QVC (a shopping channel).

This follows opponent’s Barack Obama’s purchase of a half an hour of airtime on some of the major networks last Wednesday night.

The candidate joked "I'm a true Maverick: a Republican without money! My only showbiz connections are Jon Voight and Heidi from The Hills."

McCain’s wife, Cindy, also appeared in the sketch helping her husband make some sales of "McCain Fine Gold Jewelry".

Tina Fey also reprised her role Sarah Palin.
