David Duchovny is suing the Daily Mail over a story that alleged he cheated on his wife Téa Leoni with a tennis coach.
Reuters reports that a lawsuit, filed in the Los Angeles Superior Court, alleges defamation and invasion of privacy. Duchovny is seeking $1m in damages.
Duchovny has been married to Leoni for 11 years but the couple recently announced that they had separated several months ago.
The lawsuit accuses the Daily Mail of posting a story on their website on Saturday alleging that the actor cheated on Leoni with a tennis coach named Edit Pakay.
Duchovny said he never hired Pakay. She says she is a friend of Duchovny's, and that they played tennis a few times, according to the lawsuit.
"This is false. It never happened," the lawsuit stated, adding that the Daily Mail story was taken down from the paper's website on Tuesday.
The story was picked up by other news outlets, causing "additional and further damage to David Duchovny" the lawsuit added.
The Daily Mail has yet to comment.
