Chris Tarrant is to host a new prime time game show in which contestants will be able to win "life changing sums of money", ITV had announced.
The Colour of Money will feature 20 cash machines, with each programmed to yield amounts between £10,000 and £20,000.
Each cash machine contains a different amount of cash and, as each second ticks by, the figure displayed increases by £1,000. The longer contestants hold their nerve, the greater the amount available to withdraw.
But if they get too greedy the machine is locked down, and they receive nothing. Each player has 10 chances to withdraw enough money to take them to their target.
Tarrant told PA: "When I saw The Colour Of Money, I thought it was brilliant. It's a simple format and creates such tension. It seems so easy, but our coloured cash machines prove that there's not always a pot of gold at the end of every rainbow."
Paula Warwick, commissioning editor at ITV Entertainment, said: "We're delighted to have Chris Tarrant host this brand new and exciting prime-time show.
"He is the master of tension and suspense and is the perfect choice for this new series."
The show will appear on ITV1 next year and is production company 12 Yard's first major commission since being acquired by ITV Productions.
