A decade of RTÉ Television's acclaimed 'Reeling in the Years' will be released on DVD at the end of this month.

Following a number of years of clearing the music and footage rights, 'Reeling in the 80s' will be released on 31 October.

The 150-minute, double DVD compilation features key news, sport, pop culture and entertainment events from the decade, but not all the footage which was shown on TV.

Among the artists featured on the soundtrack are: Eurhythmics, Simple Minds, Talking Heads, The Clash, Blondie, New Order, Madness, Kylie Minogue and Human League, along with performances from Irish artists like Phil Lynott, Boomtown Rats, Big Tom, Dana and Daniel O’Donnell, U2, The Blades, The Fureys and Davey Arthur, Paul Brady, Aslan, Feargal Sharkey and Sinéad O’Connor.

'Reeling in the Years' was recently voted the most popular home-produced TV programme ever in an RTÉ Guide poll of Ireland's Top 100 TV shows.
