Five 'Coronation Street' actors have signed new 12-month contracts with the Manchester-based soap. Anthony Cotton, Samia Smith, Anne Kirkbride, Michelle Keegan and Sam Aston will all continue to feature in the programme, reports The Sun.
The newspaper claims Smith (Maria Connor) and Kirkbride (Deirdre Barlow) have been promised gripping storylines.
A source is quoted as saying that the character of Maria is in for a tough year claiming "After Liam's murder she has to bring his baby into the world alone, and there's heartbreak and joy lined up for her character."
The Barlow house is also due for some changes when Ken’s son Peter turns up next month and leaves his five-year-old son with them.
Keegan (Tina McIntyre), Aston (Chesney Battersby-Brown) and Cotton (Sean Tully) have also committed to the show for another year.
