Ian Reddington who plays Vernon Tomlin in ‘Coronation Street’ is planning to release his character’s ballad, '(Don't Fall Into) The Mason's Arms', for Christmas.

Digitalspy reports that the song was written by one of the street’s scriptwriters and that the character of Vernon attempts to use the song to win back his wife Liz McDonald played by Bev Callard. The song is a put-down of her new lover on the programme, Harry Mason played by Jack Ellis.

Speaking about the song, Reddington said: "I've been blown away by the response to the song, which was written by Street scriptwriters. There are talks to see if we can release it in time for Christmas. It would be fantastic to see it at No 1."

Reddington's final scene in the soap airs tonight and sees his character drive off in a van London-bound after securing a record deal. Liz fails to turn up to say goodbye.

Scouting For Girls frontman Roy Stride composed the music.
