Britney Spears' manager Larry Rudolph has put an end to speculation that the star will take to the stage at this year's MTV Video Music Awards.
Spears shambolic performance at last year's show was widely seen as symbolic of her decline from pop princess to 'celebrity in crisis'.
According to Reuters, Rudolph told Kiss FM and 'American Idol' presenter Ryan Seacrest on his radio show: "Britney Spears will not be performing at the VMAs this year. I’m telling you officially and unequivocally."
There is, however, still a possibility that Spears will appear at the show.
Responding to questions, her record label Jive e-mailed Reuters to say: "Contrary to media reports, Britney was never slated to perform on this year’s VMAs. She’s in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and her focus remains on the studio."
When asked whether Spears would appear at the awards ceremony, spokesperson Gina Orr refused to give an unequivocal answer.
