Britney Spears is in negotiations to appear at the MTV Video Music Awards next month.
Billboard has reported that while MTV has said that nothing has been finalised, the singer is appearing in promotional ads for the event.
The 26-year-old was widely criticised for her performance of 'Gimme More' at last year's awards show.
She is currently working on a new album.
