The spy thriller 'Edwin A Salt' is to be rewritten as a starring vehicle for Angelina Jolie.
Variety reports that the Oscar winner is nearing a deal to play a CIA officer who is accused of being a defector and must go on the run to prove her innocence.
Tom Cruise had been linked to the film for some time but his interest ended recently.
The trade daily says that Jolie expressed her liking of the project and Columbia Pictures then decided to rewrite it for her.
