Director Tomm Moore's animated feature 'The Secret of Kells' has been announced as the winner of the Screen Directors Guild of Ireland's 'Directors Finders Series 2008'.

As the winner of the prestigious award, the film will be showcased in the Directors Guild of America Theatre on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles.

The screening will take place on 19 September to an audience which will be made up of American distributors and industry personnel.

The screening will afford Moore the opportunity to secure a US distribution deal for his work.

'The Secret of Kells' was chosen as the winner by a panel of industry experts. It tells the animated story of the boy behind the famed Book of Kells.

The press release for the film says: "Twelve hundred years ago, an orphan named Brendan meets Brother Aidan, the keeper of an extraordinary, but unfinished book of illuminations. Aidan sets Brendan a great task, to complete the Book of Kells. With the threat of invading Vikings all around and with the help of Aisling, a mysterious young girl, Brendan faces his deepest fears to complete the task."

A pre-screening of the film will take place at a special industry awards ceremony on 4 September in Dublin's Morrison Hotel, to precede the Los Angeles event.

It will be opened by the Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism, Martin Cullen, and co-hosted by internationally acclaimed directors Jim Sheridan and Michael Apted.
