Variety reports that Jessop's testimony helped convict polygamist sect leader Warren Jeffs.
Jessop was born into a Fundamentalist Church and at 18 she married a man 32 years her senior.
Heigl's company, Abishag, which she runs with her mother Nancy, will co-produce the film.
