Siobhán Dowd has posthumously won this year’s Bisto Book of the Year award for Best Children's Book for her novel 'The London Eye Mystery'.

The author passed away aged 47 after a long illness late last year.

The award was presented by Senator David Norris and judging panel chairman Keith O'Sullivan; it was accepted on Siobhán Dowd's behalf by her friend and publisher David Fickling.

Her husband Geoff Morgan was also in attendance.

The prize of €10,000 will be presented to the Siobhán Dowd Trust, which was established by the author to help disadvantaged children to improve their reading skills.

This year's Eilís Dillon Award, won by Siobhán Dowd for 'A Swift Sure Cry' last year, went to Tom Kelly for 'The Thing with Finn'. He was presented with a specially commissioned glass sculpture and a cheque for €3,000.
