Christian Bale has agreed to play John Connor in a total of three new Terminator movies.

The 'Batman Begins' star is currently shooting the fourth Terminator movie, 'Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins', which is due to be released in May 2009.

Producers of the movie confirmed at the Cannes Film Festival that the Welsh-born actor would also star in a further two sequels.

Speaking to the BBC, Victor Kubicek of filmmakers Halcyon said: "Christian was our first choice and he's a big fan of 'The Terminator', so we're very lucky. But with 'Batman', he's already done the whole franchise thing, so we weren't sure he'd respond."

'Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins' is directed by 'Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle' director McG and will also star Common and Sam Worthington. 'No Country for Old Men' star Josh Brolin is also rumoured to have been cast as The Terminator.

Bale will next be seen once again as Batman in 'The Dark Knight', which is released in July.
