Irish contestant survives Apprentice grilling

Maguire - Gets another chance
Maguire - Gets another chance

Irish contestant Jennifer Maguire survived a boardroom grilling on last night's episode of 'The Apprentice', with her teammate Lindi Mngaza later fired from the show. For more on 'The Apprentice', read our blog here.

Dubliner Maguire, Mngaza and team leader Lucinda Ledgerwood were called to face Alan Sugar after their team finished second in the ice-cream selling task.

Mngaza and Maguire incurred Sugar's wrath for offering exclusivity deals on their ice-creams to a pub and cinema chain respectively.

He said: "You're out representing a farmer, who's trying to build up a business in London, and there you are giving away his total exclusivity in cinemas and bars...you have demonstrated how you've limited the farmer's business."

Sugar told Mngaza: "Lindi, you were second in command, second in command for what I think was the most important thing in this task; identifying customers and selling the merchandise. And it's sales that you lost this task on, and that brings me back to a conclusion that Lindi, you're fired."

He had earlier told Maguire, whose attitude towards her fellow contestants had been called into question,: "You say one of your worst qualities is giving idiots another chance. Maybe some of it has rubbed off on me because I'm giving you a second chance."

Afterwards, Mngaza said: "I thought I was going to win and this has happened. I was very shocked, absolutely stunned."

She continued: "I did not get a chance to be project manager and I did not get the chance to showcase my skills... Everyone had reasons to be fired. We were over-confident. We thought we had sold more than we had. We over-estimated the team."

Mngaza said offering exclusivity was a "bad mistake".
