Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe has claimed he was only joking when he said he was searching for a mysterious Australian girl whom he met briefly at an awards ceremony in Australia.
Radcliffe said on Monday that he was smitten with the woman but didn't manage to get her name and phone number. The 18-year-old star was speaking with Sydney's Daily Telegraph newspaper.
He said: "I must have walked around that party for an hour trying to look for this girl, like some sad pathetic dweeb, but it would have been worth it."
A number of newspapers in the country then began a search for the mystery woman and two 23-year-old Australians have now come forward, claiming to be the beautiful stranger.
However, Radcliffe's representatives have now said the star was just joking. They told New York's Daily News: "[Radcliffe's comments] were meant in jest, but sadly [have] been blown out of all proportion."
The women, Cassi Mackay and Savannah Blount, described the Harry Potter star as "charming and very polite" but said they already have boyfriends.
