Queen's Brian May is to be installed as the Chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University.
60-year-old May was awarded an honorary fellowship for his contribution to astronomy and services to the public understanding of science last year.
Prior to his success with Queen, the guitarist had studied Astrophysics at Imperial College, London.
He now takes over the role from former Prime Minister Tony Blair's wife, Cherie Blair, and his duties in his new post will include presiding over graduation ceremonies and representing the university on special occasions.
Dr May completed his PhD thesis, 'A Survey of Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud', in 2007 and was awarded his doctorate.
He also recently co-authored a book, 'Bang! The Complete History of the Universe', with Sir Patrick Moore and Chris Lintott.
