A 27-year-old Dublin woman is amongst the 16 contestants set to battle it out to become Alan Sugar's apprentice.

Jennifer Maguire, a marketing consultant who currently lives in Bristol, describes herself as an "iron fist in a velvet glove" and says: "I am a success totally."

Maguire, who entered the workforce after her Leaving Certificate, was a champion show jumper at 14 and says that when she first ran an office she made €77,000 in six months with no training.

She now specialises in advertising for the fashion and leisure industry and was promoted within two weeks of starting her job.

Of her sales skills she says: "I can sell pieces of paper for £50. I rate myself as the best salesperson in Europe."

Maguire joins a single mother, a woman who claims to have royal blood, an ex-Army engineer, a bank manager, a barrister and a woman who says her biggest regret was turning down a role as a Bond girl body double amongst the aspiring apprentices.

They hope to win a role in one of Sugar's companies and earn the six-figure salary which goes with the job.

The new series starts on Wednesday 26 March on the BBC.
