Hilary Swank has been announced as the winner of the Best International Actress award at this year's Irish Film and Television Awards.

The Oscar-winning star won the award for her performance in 'PS, I Love You', which was adapted from a novel by Irish writer Cecelia Ahern.

The awards ceremony takes place at Dublin's Gaiety Theatre Dublin this Sunday, and will be broadcast live on RTÉ One that evening from 9.30pm.

The Best International Actress award is one of four People's Choice Categories voted for by the general public, celebrating the outstanding female talent in the film industry today. The other nominees this year were Cate Blanchett ('Elizabeth: The Golden Age'), Jodie Foster ('The Brave One') and Keira Knightley ('Atonement').

Members of the public voted online for their favourite actress until Monday 28 January when the results were subsequently collated.

Previous winners of the award include Helen Mirren in 'The Queen', Gillian Anderson in 'The Mighty Celt' and Keira Knightley for 'King Arthur/Pirates of the Caribbean'.
