Stage and screen veteran Francesca Annis will star in the Gate Theatre’s forthcoming production of Tennessee Williams’ 'The Glass Menagerie'.

The renowned actress, who recently starred in the critically acclaimed BBC1 costume drama series 'Cranford' with Michael Gambon and Judi Dench, will star alongside Katie Kirby, Garrett Lombard, and Marty Rea in the Robin Lefèvre directed production.

Sixty-three-year-old Annis is best know for her television work, though she has also appeared in a number of movies including 'Revolver', 'The Libertine', 'Dune' and Roman Polanski's controversial 'The Tragedy of Macbeth'.

Annis also dated actor Ralph Fiennes for 11 years before their split in 2006.

'The Glass Menagerie', from Pulitzer Prize-winning author Tennessee Williams, is an acknowledged masterpiece. Set in 1930s St Louis, this semi-autobiographical ‘memory play’ tells the story of the Wingfield family and their desire to escape the world in which they live.

'The Glass Menagerie' opens at the Gate Theatre on Tuesday 12 February with previews from Thursday 7 February.
