Kylie Minogue has spoken about the anger she felt after being diagnosed with breast cancer two years ago.

The Australian singer said she had "channelled" her negative feelings into her music when she returned to the recording studio to make new album ‘X’.

Co-hosting Jo Whiley’s show on BBC Radio One, Kylie said: "I think the anger came out as energy and I wanted to know that I could do what I had done before, I kind of went nuts in the studio for a week which was cathartic."

Minogue, who has made a full recovery from her illness, admitted that she was like a "bat out of hell" and "just wanted to record anything and everything".

She also revealed that the album was heavily influenced by her experience with cancer and would have been very different if she had not been sick.

She said: "Now I know more than before that life isn't a straight road and it takes us on some unexpected turns and it's the experience that matters, and what you do with that."

The 39-year-old told listeners that she was still taking medication, saying: "It can be a struggle but that's my path at the moment and it just makes me all the more appreciative about being here and having a job I love - and having all the support that I've had and that I do have."
