Sports presenter and former international gymnast Gabby Logan admitted she is "gutted" at being kicked off 'Strictly Come Dancing' but is now urging fans to vote for her husband instead.

The presenter was hotly tipped to go far in the popular BBC show, but became the fourth celebrity to get the boot on Sunday night after a shock dance-off which saw her fighting for survival against Penny Lancaster Stewart.

The judges were spitting with fury at having to choose between what they described as two of the best dancers in the competition, but eventually decided Gabby, 34, had to go.

Ironically, her husband Kenny - who has been struggling to master the complex routines - is still in the contest despite scoring far lower marks than his wife.

Writing in yesterday's Times, BBC Sport presenter Gabby said: "I didn't believe I had a right to stay by any stretch of the imagination, but I had hoped my journey might last a few weeks more as I was having the time of my life."

But despite her disappointment, she adds: "The good news is there is still a Logan to cheer for in our house... Among the insults the judges have thrown at him are 'Conan the Barbarian', 'a gorilla' and a 'vacuum cleaner' but I've got a funny feeling he might clean up next weekend, and if you are watching, please vote for him - nobody is safe in this game."

In the latest show, the couple both performed the Samba with their respective partners and Gabby scored 30 out of 40, compared with Kenny's 18.

Kenny's face dropped when it was revealed later that he had made it into the next round but Gabby was going to have to battle it out in the dance off with Rod Stewart's wife Penny.

Once both pairs had performed again, the judges had to decide who would leave and head judge Len Goodman was left with the casting vote.

He said: "This was not my role, my role was to vote off one of the worst dancers, not one of the best. For the more rounded performance, I have to go with Penny."

Gabby is the daughter of former Wales international football player and manager Terry Yorath.
She married Kenny, a former Scottish rugby player and now a pundit, in 2001 and the couple - who are both fiercely competitive - had twins in 2005.

She became known for her competitive attitude after her first performance in the show, when she reportedly had a strop because the judges rated her fourth out of the seven female contestants.
She apparently had to be comforted by her mother afterwards because she could not believe she had failed to impress the panel with her rumba.

However, she now insists: "Winning was never my motivation, but somewhere along the way, because of my work rate and my love of training, I was labelled competitive...

"Beating the other contestants was not the aim, and I include my husband Kenny in that. It was about discovering how far I could push myself, how much I could learn and where my dancing feet would carry me."

She adds in The Times: "It turns out my feet didn't even carry me past October, and I'm gutted."

Next Saturday's show will see Kenny and the other remaining contestants perform the Paso Doble or the Foxtrot.
