A misdemeanor hit-and-run charge was dismissed against Britney Spears in a Californian court yesterday.

People.com reports that the troubled pop singer also pleaded not guilty to another charge of driving without a valid California driver's licence. The singer did not attend the hearing but was represented by her lawyer, Michael Flanagan.

The dismissed charge related to an incident in a San Fernando Valley parking lot on August 6. Kim Robard-Rifkin, who owns the 1999 Mercedes-Benz station wagon that Spears hit in the incident, was paid around $1,000 for damages, according to Ms Spears' lawyer.

Flanagan said Robard-Rifkin "is very sympathetic toward Britney and hopes the best for her."

Spears was ordered to appear in court on November 26 regarding the licence issue. Despite the pop star obtaining a California licence on October 2, the LA City Attorneys are apparently seeking a probation term and fine for Spears, according to Flanagan.
