Robert De Niro and 'Heat' director Michael Mann are to work together again on a new crime thriller called 'Frankie Machine'.
Variety reports that the film is based on the Don Winslow book 'The Winter of Frankie Machine' and tells the story of a retired mob hitman who finds himself dragged back into his former life when he discovers he has been set up to be murdered.
De Niro has been aboard the project since movie studio Paramount bought the book rights in 2005.
He will produce the film through his company, Tribeca Films.
