Kate Garraway's car has been crushed by UK authorities because she failed to pay for road tax on it, it has been revealed.
The 'Strictly Come Dancing' star was unable to drive her VW Beetle after getting tendonitis during the show's rehearsals, so she left it near her North London house while she got lifts from friends.
But Garraway reportedly failed to realise that the tax disc was out of date, and a warden clamped the car. The vehicle was taken to a pound 24 hours later, after the TV presenter failed to pay tax. It was crushed a week later.
Digitalspy quotes a friend of Garraway as saying: "Kate has been in agony with tendonitis and was banned from driving by her doctor. She couldn’t even walk, let alone drive.
"So the car was just sitting around the corner. She didn’t even know it had been taken until a few days ago and really thought it was still at the pound.
"Kate is gutted, she really loved that car. It must be worth about £10,000 and there were personal items in it.
"She understands she was negligent, but it’s due to everything that’s going on."
