Britney Spears appeared at a Los Angeles police station last night to be photographed and fingerprinted in connection with two minor traffic offences.

Reuters reports that the 26-year-old, dressed in a black mini-skirt and leather jacket, spent about 30 minutes being processed at the station in Van Nuys.

Spears' booking relates to an incident in August when her car scuffed another car as she was being followed by paparazzi.

The singer got out of the car, inspected the damage and then walked into another building.

She was later charged with one misdemeanour count each of hit-and-run and driving without a California licence.

She is due in court for arraignment on 25 October.

On leaving the police station last night she said the police officers were "really nice".
