Pop singer Britney Spears has reportedly been ordered to go for counselling sessions with her ex-husband Kevin Federline.

According to People magazine, documents released yesterday reveal the orders set down by the court in the custody battle between Spears and Federline.

Spears' ex-husband currently has custody of 2-year-old Sean Preston and 1-year-old Jayden James, after a court ruling earlier this week ordered Spears to surrender the children to his care.

This ruling was reportedly based on the fact that Spears did not comply with earlier court conditions, requesting that she present a valid driving licence and make herself available for random drug and alcohol tests.

The document released yesterday said: "A missed [drug] test, refusal to submit to a test, or failure to respond to the testing agency's call … shall be deemed by the court as a failed test."

Spears is now expected to complete at least three counselling sessions, reportedly with her ex-husband, before the next court hearing on 26 October.

In relation to the monitored visitation rights granted to Spears, the document said: "The monitor shall terminate visitation immediately if any conduct or action by [Spears] endangers the minor children."
