The actress, Lois Maxwell, who starred as Miss Moneypenny in a number of James Bond movies, has died in Western Australia. She was 80.

She starred alongside Sean Connery in the first Bond movie, Dr No in 1962 and continued to play the role until 1985 when she starred with Roger Moore in A View to a Kill.

Moore, paying tribute to the actress, said she had been a great asset to the early bond films.

The Canadian-born actress had been living in Australia for several years because her son and his family are based there. The hospital spokeswoman did not give the cause of Maxwell's death.

She starred in 14 Bond films as the secretary to M, 007’s boss and the head of the secret service.

Only Desmond Llewelyn, who played Q 17 times before his death in 1999, starred in more films.
