David Beckham will be reunited with wife Victoria today after the Spice Girl flew back to London on hearing of her father-in-law's heart attack.
The England footballer rushed to the UK yesterday from his Los Angeles home to be at the bedside of his father, Ted, who was taken ill on Wednesday night.
The 59-year-old reportedly had to be resuscitated by paramedics on his way to hospital. His condition yesterday was described as stable.
After the heart attack, he was treated by doctors at Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, east London. He was later moved to the London Chest Hospital in Bethnal Green.
Beckham arrived at Heathrow airport at around midday yesterday from where a waiting 4X4 took him to the hospital. Wife Victoria was working in Japan when she heard the news about her father-in-law.
The Spice Girl flew out yesterday and was due to arrive in London in the early hours of this morning.
Ted Beckham, a gas fitter who once harboured dreams of being a footballer himself, is believed to have had surgery at the London Chest Hospital. A spokesman for Barts and The London NHS Trust said yesterday: "I can confirm that he is at the London Chest Hospital and is in a stable condition."
