Oscar winner Jim Broadbent has revealed that he has joined the cast of the sixth Harry Potter film, 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince'.

In an exclusive interview with the film website Dark Horizons, Broadbent said that he would play Horace Slughorn.

He described the character as "a retired teacher of magic who's drawn back out of retirement because he's got some secrets they need in the battle against the Death Eaters".

Shooting on 'Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince' began yesterday.

Star Daniel Radcliffe can currently be seen on Irish cinema screens in the Australian drama 'December Boys'.

Broadbent's new film, 'And When Did You Last See Your Father?', opens in Ireland on 5 October.
