Irish actor Stuart Townsend has prompted speculation that he has married actress Charlize Theron by referring to her as his "wife".
The 34-year-old actor told People magazine that he is married to Theron but then said that the couple did not have a wedding ceremony.
Townsend said: "I'm married. I didn't do a church wedding or anything, but we're married. We're husband and wife."
The actor, who has been in a relationship with Theron for nearly seven years, also said: "We love each other and we want to spend our lives together".
He referred to the 32-year-old actress as "the greatest woman I've ever met".
"We didn't have a ceremony. I don't need a certificate or the state or the church to say otherwise. So no there's no big official story on a wedding, but we are married... I consider her my wife and she considers me her husband."
