Tommy Lee has issued a public apology to Alicia Keys, blaming Kid Rock for "disrespecting" the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.
A scuffle broke out between Lee and his former love rival during Key's performance at the awards show in Las Vegas, where Rock was later cited for misdemeanour battery for throwing a punch at the Motley Crue drummer.
The reason for Rock's outburst was previously unknown, but Lee insists it all started because Rock - who he dubs 'Kid Pebble' - is jealous of his relationship with their ex-wife Pamela Anderson.
Lee denies he was the instigator, and told The Insider TV show: "I was minding myself and then he goes and punches me on the cheek. I was trying to be the bigger man, but he was acting childish.
"I was ready to go in the alley and kick his ass. I was about to put Kid in the emergency room when security grabbed me. They said, 'If you move, we will break your arms'."
"Anyway... I would like to apologise to Alicia and MTV."
Lee married Anderson in 1995, before divorcing three years later - while the former Baywatch beauty filed for divorce against Rock, just four months after they wed last August.
