Comedian Jim Davidson has left celebrity cooking show 'Hell's Kitchen' after a series of rows with fellow contestant Brian Dowling.

His departure from the cookery reality show followed a row in which he used a gay epithet in the former Big Brother winner's presence.

Brian asked him not to use the words because he found it "really rude".

Following his departure Davidson released a statement in which he said he felt the "moment was right to leave" 'Hell's Kitchen'.

He said: "With the likes of Brian and Abbey, it's a measure of how far I am out of that world that I don't really have experience of such people on a day to day level. Certainly not trapped with them 24/7.

"People who know me know I am not homophobic."

The row began after Davidson complained about a "look" he'd been given by a table of diners.

"Why do shirt-lifters pull that same face?" he said, prompting Dowling to call him the "most offensive person he had ever met."

The comedian latter accused his fellow contestant of "playing the homophobic card."
