Kathy Kenny, the wife of 'The Late Late Show' presenter Pat Kenny, has talked exclusively to the RTÉ Guide about her recent health scare.
As Pat prepares to return to the set of 'The Late Late Show' for this year's season, Kathy explained how a trip to an ophthalmic consultant this summer after treatment for conjunctivitis led to a diagnosis that she wasn't expecting.
The consultant, Dr Coleman, told Kathy that she had a tumour on the corner of her eye; she was immediately admitted for surgery and had it removed.
Kathy admitted to being relieved that it was benign but says that she found the experience "rather traumatic".
The experience, she says, was "very debilitating and... a real eye opener as to how those people with impaired vision have to cope."
Although she may be left with a scar on her eye, she can have a graft if necessary
Kathy says "It's not causing me any pain. They're very hopeful that it won't return. But if I had left it, it would have been nasty.
Talking about his wife's illness, Pat said: "you get it all in perspective and you say, as long as you have your health... you have to be philosophical about it."
The RTÉ Guide is on sale now and 'The Late Late Show' returns this Friday, 7 September, at 9.30pm on RTÉ One.
