Ireland came third in the first ever 'Eurovsion Dance Contest' on Saturday night with Finland taking the title.

Finland, represented by Jussi Vnnen and Katja Koukkula, won the contest after viewers from 16 participating nations across Europe awarded them 132 points. The winners danced the first routine to 'All In Love Is Fair'. For their second dance, they performed a Paso Doble to 'The Unforgiven' to give viewers an insight into their own national culture.

Ukraine, represented by Ilyia Sydorenko and Julia Okropiridze, came second with 121 points and Ireland took third place when Mick Donegan and Nicola Byrne polled 95 points.

The ceremony, hosted by Graham Norton and Claudia Winkleman, took place at BBC Television Centre and was screened live on RTÉ1. It was shown by 24 different international broadcasters.

Countries competing in the contest were Austria, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine and the UK.

The UK came a dismal 15th. Strictly Come Dancing regulars Brendan Cole and Camilla Dallerup competed for the UK and polled only 18 points. Only Switzerland fared worse, coming last with no points.

Cole and Dallerup, who were once a couple, first danced a set routine to the Barbra Streisand song 'The Way We Were'. Their second dance, to a James Bond medley, was chosen specifically to represent the UK.
