Second Book of the Year vote for Kite Runner

Khaled Hosseini's novel, 'The Kite Runner', has been voted Reading Group Book of the Year for the second time.

In second place was 2005 Orange Prize winner 'We Need to Talk About Kevin' by Lionel Shriver, followed by Ian McEwan's 'Saturday'.

The other books in the top six were 2004 Orange Prize winner 'Small Island' by Andrea Levy, Irene Nemirovsky's 'Suite Francaise' and 'The Time Traveller's Wife' by Audrey Niffenegger.

'The Kite Runner' author Khaled Hosseini said, "It is a tremendous honour... I am so very proud and moved that four years after its publication, 'The Kite Runner' continues to resonate with reading groups."

His new novel, 'A Thousand Splendid Suns', was published in May.

The previous winner of the reading group book of the year was 'The Poisonwood Bible' by Barbara Kingsolver in 2005.
