'American Idol' and 'X-Factor' judge Simon Cowell is entering the film world with a new music-themed project.
The Hollywood Reporter says that Cowell is developing a film tentatively titled 'Star Struck', which is set behind the scenes of a TV singing competition and is inspired by the film 'Fame'.
The film follows 10 contestants competing on the show.
Commenting, Cowell said: "The story is told through the eyes of those 10 contestants. We want it to be the musical version of 'Rocky' - an underdog story, a feelgood film."
Cowell will work as producer on the film, and in keeping with its theme, the lead roles will be cast through open auditions of unknowns in US cities, similar to the auditions on 'American Idol' and 'X-Factor'.
The plan is to have the film in cinemas next summer.
