'The Simple Life' star Nicole Richie has been sentenced to four days in jail after pleading guilty to driving while under the influence of drugs.
The 25-year-old reality television star was given the sentence just weeks after her co-star Paris Hilton served a three week jail term.
Richie was ordered to serve her sentence before 28 September and was fined $2,048.
The television star was also placed on three years probation and ordered to attend a court-supervised rehabilitation programme for two-time offenders within the next 21 days.
Because of a previous conviction in 2003, Richie could have faced up to a year in jail if she had been found guilty in a trial that was due to begin in August.
When asked if rumours that the star is pregnant had any bearing on her plea deal, the deputy district attorney said: "I don't have any information on that".
Richie was told in court: "If you violate the terms of this agreement, you can and you will go to county jail for more time than the court is giving you today."
