Lennon - Sunglasses for sale

A pair of sunglasses worn by late Beatle John Lennon have been at the centre of an online bidding war after being put up for sale last week.

The round, gold-rimmed glasses belonged to Japanese TV  producer Junishi Yore who was a translator for the Beatles during their 1966 tour of Japan.

The glasses come a handwritten note from Yore's saying that he and Lennon exchanged gifts at the end of the tour. Yore gave Lennon copper cups and, in return, Lennon gave Yore his glasses.

In the note Yore describes how, as a mark of respect, he removed the black lenses on the day that Lennon was murdered outside his New York apartment in 1980

The glasses are for sale on 991.com, which deals in rare vinyl, CDs and music memorabilia.

Bidding, which is said to be as high as $1.5 million, is set to end on 31 July.
